Calkins Named ECHL Photographer of the Year
League honors Reign photographer for inaugural award
ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign, 2011-12 Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, is proud to announce that their team photographer, Lee Calkins, is the first-ever recipient of the ECHL Photographer of the Year award for the 2011-12 season.
“I'm thrilled with being named the ECHL photographer of the year,” Calkins said. “It is great to have all my hard work recognized by a League that has many very talented photographers.”
Calkins has been photographing the Ontario Reign since the team’s inaugural season in 2008. He has been an official joint licensed photographer for both the PHPA and ECHL since that time. While with the Reign, he has been the game-day photographer as well as Reign-event photographer; including Reign Day, the Hope Reigns Golf Classic, and the 2010 and 2011 ECHL All-Star games to name a few.
“It’s an honor for us, as an organization, to have Lee receive this award. It’s well deserved for the thousands of professional quality photos we have in our archive and the countless events and special requests he fulfills on behalf of the Reign and its fans,” said Reign President Justin Kemp. “He’s a true asset to our team and we’re fortunate to have him as part of the Reign family.”
Before he joined the Reign, Calkins shot for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, California Angels, Long Beach Ice Dogs, and various trading card companies and sport publications.
