Ontario Defeats Stockton 4-2
Four Reign Players Tally One Goal, One Assist
Ontario, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, defeated the Stockton Thunder 4-2 before 4,458 at Citizens Business Bank Arena Friday Night. Steven Tarasuk, C.J. Stretch, Matt Tassone, and Francois Brisebois each had a goal and an assist and Dylan Yeo had two assists in the win.
Tarasuk got the scoring started with a power-play goal at 8:04 of the first period. Yeo’s shot from the left point was deflected on net by C.J. Stretch, but Stockton goaltender Olivier Roy made the save. The puck bounced through the crease and Tarasuk batted it into the wide open side of the net. Ian O’Connor answered for the Thunder with an unassisted goal at 14:05 before the Reign took advantage of the power play again at 16:17. A well-executed tic-tac-toe pass from Yeo and Tarasuk found C.J. Stretch alone at the base of the left circle and he roofed the puck over the right shoulder of Roy to put Ontario ahead 2-1.
Tassone started and finished the Reign’s third goal of the game. Tassone kept an Ontario threat alive, as he picked the pocket of a Thunder skater attempting to clear the Stockton zone. Roy stopped a shot by Francois Brisebois and tried to cover the puck in the crease, but Tassone and Brady Calla kept hammering at the loose puck until Tassone found an opening, extending the Reign’s lead to 3-1.
The Reign increased its cushion to 4-1 at 3:20 of the third period on Brisebois’ third goal of the season, as the winger spun around and swung his stick at a rebound which found its way to the back of the net. Reign newcomer Chris Huxley earned the first professional point of his career with an assist on the play. O’Connor added his second goal of the game at 7:54 of the third and the Reign held on to beat the Thunder 4-2.
Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves on 23 shots to earn the win, while Roy took the loss with 22 saves on 26 shots. The Reign scored on two of their four power plays and stopped all four of Stockton's power-play opportunities.
