Darcy Kuemper Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week
2-0-0 Performance Leads to League Honors
ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, are pleased to announce that rookie goaltender Darcy Kuemper has been Named Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for November 21 – 27.
The 21-year-old was 2-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage. Kuemper stopped 38 shots in a 4-2 win at Bakersfield on Saturday and carried the momentum into Sunday, as he turned aside 35 shots in a 2-1 victory over the Condors in Ontario. He backstopped a Reign penalty-kill unit which denied the Condors on 13 of 14 odd-man chances. The only conversion came on a 6-on-3 attack with just 1:02 left in regulation in Sunday's contest.
The wins boosted Ontario’s record to 9-6-1 (19 points) and lifted the club into fourth place in the Western Conference.
Kuemper improved to 7-1-0 with the Reign this season and climbed into the ECHL lead with a 1.74 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage. He’s held opponents to two or fewer goals in seven of his eight starts and won five consecutive games to begin the season before absorbing his first loss, 3-1, to the Thunder on November 19.
Drafted in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native went 2-1-0 in a brief four-game call up to the AHL's Houston Aeros at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Last season, as a member of the Western Hockey League’s Red Deer Rebels (major junior hockey), Kuemper led all WHL goaltenders in wins (45), goals-against average (1.86), and save percentage (.933). His 13 shutouts tied the WHL record. At the Canadian Hockey League’s 2010-11 awards banquet, Kuemper took home the PertPLUS Goaltender of the Year Award.
Kuemper appeared in 178 WHL contests over three seasons with the Red Deer Rebels, posting a 94-60-17 record with 19 shutouts, a 2.48 goals-against average and a save percentage of .914.
