Ontario Welcomes Watt Back

Reign Forward Line Grows

ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, have announced that their AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, are reassigning forward J.D. Watt to Ontario.

Watt, 24, returns to the Reign from his second appearance with the Monarchs this season after playing a total of 17 games, recording three points (2g, 1a).  The right winger posted 27 penalty minutes with the club.  Watt was first called up to the Monarchs Dec. 12 and returned Dec. 20.  In his second trip, Watt was recalled on Dec. 26 and was assigned back to the Reign Jan. 30.

The 6-foot-2, 196-pound, Cremona, Alberta native signed with the Reign at the beginning of the 2011-12 season after spending his 2010-11 season in the AHL between the Abbotsford Heat and the San Antonio Rampage.  Watt recorded four points (1g, 3a) in 27 games with the Heat and two points (1g, 1a) in 10 games with the Rampage.

During the 2009-10 season, Watt skated with the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies for only one game before making the move to Abbotsford for 70 games posting 13 points (8g, 5a) and a career-high, 267 penalty minutes.  Watt’s 2008-09 season was again split between the two leagues.  The forward played 42 games with the AHL’s Quad City Flames earning two points from assists and 146 penalty minutes.  In the latter part of the season, Watt played with the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers for 18 games recording 14 points (5g, 9a) in the regular season, and posted seven points (3g, 4a) in 16 play-off game appearances.

Watt was selected by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round, 111th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
