Reign Falls To Thunder In OT, 4-3

Post-Game Jersey Auction Raises $34,800 For Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley

ONTARIO, Calif.
– The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, was defeated by the Stockton Thunder in overtime, 4-3, on Saturday evening before a crowd of 7,705 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Stockton claimed the first two goals of the game in the second match of back-to-back series with the Reign.  The first Thunder goal came from center Craig Valette at 7:47 and was the first of three Stockton power play goals in the match.  Left wing Judd Blackwater claimed the second Stockton goal at 16:10 after the Reign headed to the bin for a hooking minor.  Blackwater picked up a rebound from a Craig Valette shot that slid across the crease and punched it over the goal line.  Ontario was unable to find the back of the net before the clock hit zero in the first period, so Stockton took their 2-0 lead into the middle frame.

The Thunder claimed their third power play goal of the game at 5:25 in the second period.  Defenseman Ryan Constant took a wrist shot from the slot that flew over Ontario netminder Mike Zacharias and into the top-shelf.

The Reign answered back at 9:20 when center Tim Kraus scored his second goal in as many games.  Forward Dwight 11-21 vs STK Kraus.jpgKing took a shot on goal that hit Thunder goaltender Andrew Perugini’s pads and bounced out to Kraus, who threw the puck up and over Perugini.

Defenseman Michael Egener brought the Reign within one goal of the Thunder at 15:07.  Right wing Geoff Walker sent a feed over to Egener who was just inside of the blue line.  Egener’s one-timer flew past Perugini and into the back of the net.

The Thunder held their 3-2 lead until 15:48 in the third period, when forward Greg Hogeboom scored the equalizer goal. Center Jon Francisco chipped a pass to right wing Tony Voce behind the net, who slid the puck over to Hogeboom at the top left corner of the crease.  Perugini was unable to get in front of Hogeboom’s slap shot, which ended up forcing an overtime session to determine a game winner.

Jason Pitton scored his second goal of the game 1:35 into the overtime session when he flipped a shot over Zacharias’ glove.  Ontario claimed one point, but Stockton was awarded two and the win with a final score of Thunder 4, Reign 3 (OT).
