Amadio Buries Power-Play Goal in Game 3 SetbackApr 28, 2017
San Diego, CA – Forward Mike Amadio buried a power-play goal for the Ontario Reign (1-2), but the San Diego Gulls (2-1) grabbed the game-winning tally late in the third period and skated away with a 3-1 victory in Game 3 of the Pacific Division Semifinals. The Reign trail the best-of-five series, 2-1, and face a must-win Game 4 on Monday, May 1 at 7:00 at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
Gulls forward Kalle Kossila opened the scoring early in the contest on the power play, slipping a rolling puck past Reign netminder Jack Campbell (L, 24 saves on 26 shots) at 6:00. The Reign responded with a man-advantage marker of their own at 9:30 as forward Mike Amadio lifted in his second goal of the postseason past the glove of Gulls goalie Jhonas Enroth (W, 38 saves on 39 shots) off the inside of the right-wing faceoff circle. Forwards Sean Backman and T.J. Hensick added assists.
With the clock winding down and overtime looming, Gulls forward Nic Kerdiles controlled the puck at the right-wing circle and buried the game-winning marker with 1:33 left in the third period. Forward Antoine Laganiere sealed the victory for the Gulls with an empty-net tally with 28 seconds remaining. The Reign finished the contest 1-for-4 on the power play while the Gulls went 1-for-5.
