Ontario, CA – Forwards T.J. Hensick (one goal, two assists) and Justin Auger (two goals, one assist) each recorded three-point games to send the Ontario Reign (2-2) over the San Diego Gulls (2-2), 4-1, in Game 4 of the Pacific Division Semifinals at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The best-of-five series is tied, 2-2, with a decisive Game 5 tomorrow night at 7:00 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.
Reign forward Justin Auger broke the scoreless tie early in the second period, slipping past the Gulls defense and burying his first goal of the playoffs over the glove of netminder Jhonas Enroth (L, 31 saves on 34 shots) at 5:16. Forwards Jonny Brodzinski and T.J. Hensick picked up assists. The Gulls reset the contest with 1:13 left in the period with a power-play blast from defenseman Keaton Thompson.
Defenseman Paul LaDue pushed the Reign back in front early in the third period and registered the eventual game-winning goal, beating Enroth under the glove off the right-wing faceoff circle at 3:30. Hensick and Auger added assists. Auger silenced the Gulls’ push at 14:57 with his second marker of the game at 14:57 with help from forward Michael Mersch and defenseman Cameron Schilling. Hensick sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 18:06 from forward Teddy Purcell and Mersch. Reign goalie Jack Campbell earned the victory making 21 saves.
The Reign finished the contest 0-for-2 on the power play while the Gulls went 1-for-2.
