LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Kings, NHL affiliate of the Ontario Reign, have recalled goaltender Cal Petersen from Ontario. Additionally, the Kings assigned forward Matt Luff to Ontario, retroactive to yesterday.
The 24-year-old Petersen (born October 19, 1994) is a 6-1, 182-pound native of Waterloo, Iowa. Petersen has played in 10 games with the Reign this season, his second season with the club after signing with the Kings in 2017 as a free agent. He has a 2-3-1 record, a 4.29 goals-against-average and a .881 save percentage.
Last season, his first as a pro following his collegiate career at Notre Dame, he played in 41 contests and registered 23 wins. Among AHL rookies he ranked first in wins, fourth in goals-against-average, fifth in save percentage, tied for first in shutouts (tied for seventh overall) and second in minutes played (2,330). He also appeared in four postseason games with the Reign.
The 21-year-old Luff (born May 5, 1997) is a 6-2, 190-pound native of Oakville, Ontario. Luff appeared in three games with the Kings, including his NHL debut on November 3 against Columbus. Luff is currently tied for the Reign lead in points (12), ranks tied for first in goals (6) and tied for third in assists (6).
