Reign and Gulls Meet for Cool School Thursday Morning

Reign Host Gulls for Cool School Today at Citizens Business Bank Arena

Ontario, CA – The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), take on the San Diego Gulls today at 10:00 a.m. for Cool School presented by San Antonio Regional Hospital at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Today is the first of three preseason contests for the Reign and the first for two preseason games vs. San Diego.

Cool School:

The Reign celebrate Cool School today as thousands of students from around the Inland Empire fill the arena and watch a game themed around the importance of learning, school spirit and following your dreams. Each student in attendance will receive a special booklet designed to engage and challenge the mind. Super Fan Cameron Hughes will be in attendance to excite the crowd and motivate the students. Tickets are $10!

SoCal Series Fires Back Up:

Including preseason and postseason, the Reign and Gulls have met 19 times in each of the last two seasons. Last year, the Reign went 0-1-0-1 vs. San Diego in the preseason, 6-4-1-1- in the regular season and went the distance in the best-of-five Pacific Division Semifinals. Similar to the previous two campaigns, the Reign and Gulls will meet 12 times in the regular-season and twice in the preseason.

The Reign visit the Gulls on Monday, October 2 at Honda Center in Anaheim to close the preseason.

Down to the Wire:

All time, the Reign are 10-10-2-2 against the Gulls. San Diego holds a 14-8-1-1 all-time record vs. Ontario.

Preseason Numbers:

Even though it is the preseason, the Reign are still searching for their first tune-up victory, holding a 0-2-0-2 all-time record. All matchups have been against San Diego.

Flying into the Season:

After receiving 23 players for the Kings yesterday, the Reign officially open training camp today and play two preseason games in their first two days of camp. Tomorrow, the Reign and Tucson Roadrunners collide at 7:00 p.m. at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Reign Leadership:

Entering today’s contest, the Reign roster features only two veterans (260 NHL/AHL/IHL/European games played or more) in forwards T.J. Hensick and Brett Sutter. Hensick led the Reign in scoring last year with 52 points and 36 points while Sutter finished second on the team with 18 goals and fifth with 52 points.

Returning Reign:

Of the 27 players on the Reign training camp roster, 12 skated in at least one regular-season contest with the team last season including Matt Roy, Kevin Gravel, Brett Sutter, Zac Leslie, Matt Luff, Alex Lintuniemi, Chaz Reddekopp, Philippe Maillet, T.J. Hensick, Mike Amadio, Sam Herr and Jeff Zatkoff.
