Reign Pepper Gulls with Scoring Chances; Fall in Game 3

Ontario, CA – The Ontario Reign (5-2) fell to the San Diego Gulls (4-3) 3-0 in Game 3 of the Pacific Division Finals Sunday evening at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.

In the first period, both teams traded scoring chances, but the Gulls took a 1-0 lead to the intermission off a late tally from forward Kalle Kossila at 18:27. Kossila caught a pass from forward Antoine Laganiere at the bottom of the left-wing circle for his second goal of the playoffs.

Gulls forward Nick Ritchie extended his personal point streak to seven contests (five goals, two assists) with a power-play tally midway through the third period to make it 2-0. With the clock winding down, the Reign pulled goaltender Peter Budaj (L, 22 saves on 24 shots) for the extra attacker, but defenseman Jacob Megna found the empty net at 16:49 to seal the victory. Netminder Matt Hackett (W, 29 saves on 29 shots) earned the shutout victory for the Gulls. Ontario finished the contest 0-for-3 on the power play while the Gulls went 1-for-4.
