Reign Ready for SoCal Showdown in San Diego Tonight

Ontario, CA – The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), take on the San Diego Gulls tonight at 7:00 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. Tonight is the ninth of 12 regular-season meetings between the two teams.

Ontario clinches a playoff berth tonight with:

(a) a win at San Diego AND a Bakersfield loss (reg/OT/SO) at San Antonio, OR

(b) an OTL/SOL at San Diego AND a Bakersfield regulation loss at San Antonio

SoCal Series:

The Reign are 4-3-1-0 against the Gulls this season and hold an 8-9-2-1 all-time record. This season, five of the eight meetings have been decided by one goal. All time, the Reign are 5-5-0-0 against the Gulls at Valley View Casino Center.

Best Friends:

The Reign and Gulls meet in four of the Reign’s remaining five regular-season games and if the postseason started today, the Reign and Gulls would meet in the first round.

Leading the Way:

Reign forward Jonny Brodzinski, who is currently up with the Kings, leads the head-to-head series with eight points (three goals, five assists) and Reign forward T.J. Hensick leads the series with four goals. Reign forward Sean Backman leads all active skaters in the series with six points (one goal, five assists).

Vets Carrying Reign:

Veteran Reign forwards T.J. Hensick and Teddy Purcell have each recorded significant points over the last 10 contests. Hensick has three goals and six assists during the stretch will Purcell holds two goals and eight assists.

Flying High:

Gulls forward Kalle Kossila is currently on a three-game point streak (two goals, one assist) and is fourth among AHL rookies with 47 points (14 goals, 33 assists). Forward Corey Tropp is tied for 15 in the AHL with 54 points (21 goals, 33 assists).
