The Reign have received forward Michael Mersch from their NHL affiliate, the Los Angeles Kings.
Meanwhile, forward Maxim Kitsyn and defenseman Alex Roach have been assigned to the Ontario Reign’s ECHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, and forwards Matt White, Derek Arnold, Riley Armstrong and defenseman Garrett Haar have been released from their tryout agreements, Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Kitsyn, White and Roach each skated with the ECHL’s Ontario Reign last season and Roach scored a goal last Friday in the Reign’s 3-2 preseason shootout loss to the San Diego Gulls at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign’s training camp roster moves from 28 to 22 players.
Mersch, 23, finished seventh among AHL rookies last season with 45 points and was tied for second with 22 goals in 76 games with the Manchester Monarchs.
Mersch also led the AHL in scoring with 22 postseason points (13-9=22) in 18 contests, helping the Monarchs capture the Calder Cup Championship. The Park Ridge, Illinois, native also ranked second among first-year players with 223 shots and fourth with a plus-minus rating of +20.
Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-1, 225-pound forward attended the University of Wisconsin for four seasons grabbing 120 points (67-53=120) in 157 games and helped the Badgers win the WCHA championship in 2012-13. Mersch was selected by the Kings in the fourth round (110 overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
