Chicago, IL – The Ontario Reign (0-3-0-0) leave the Midwest winless falling 5-2 to the Chicago Wolves (1-1-1-0). In the first meeting ever between the two teams, the Reign gave up three power play goals.
In the first period of play, the Reign and the Wolves duked it out taking a combined total of 23 shots on goal. After five total power plays in the first, Chicago was the only team to take advantage of the mismatch scoring the first goal of the game. Chicago’s Alex Tuch scored (14:11) from a Brandon Pirri and Teemu Pulkkinen assist. Ontario’s Stepan Falkovsky’s slashing penalty allowed the Wolves to make the most of their first power play of the game.
In the second period, it was more goals for the Wolves, including a second power play goal. Chicago scored on a Paul Thompson solo shot (5:17), a Tomas Hyka 5-4 power play (7:55), immediately following the Wolves’ 5-3 power play, and a Brandon Pirri goal (15:36). On the last two goals for Chicago, Teemu Pulkkinen racked up a pair of assists himself with some additional help from Shea Theodore and Kenney Morrison, respectively.
The Reign came into the third period scoring with purpose. Ontario put two back-to-back goals in the net within the first two minutes of the period. The first goal came from Philippe Maillet (1:03) with a solo assist from Michael Mersch. Just about 30 seconds later, Captain Brett Sutter put in the second goal for Reign (1:32) with an assist from Mike Amadio. But, the Reign’s rally was put to rest with the Wolves third power play goal of the game by Teemu Pulkkinen (15:31) and a Paul Thompson assist.
