Early Birds

By: Erin Tobin-Inland Empire Magazine

The Inland Empire’s morning radio personalities do a great job helping us get out of bed and entertaining us during the morning crawl to work.

Without the banter of morning radio show hosts, many of us would struggle to wake up in the morning. But who, other than Starbucks’ barristas, has that much spunk at 6 a.m.?

“I am doing the same show I used to listen to when I was in school,” says KGGI’s Jeff Pope, who admits the station’s Breakfast Club used to get him out of bed in the morning.

Both Pope and co-host Evenlyn Erives grew up in the Inland Empire (Upland and Fontana respectively), and listened to 99.1 FM, which has played top 40 hits since 1979.

Pope arrives at the Riverside radio station by 3:30 a.m. to review the day’s top stories for his three 3-minute newscasts. “Jeff has a hilarious spin on the news that no one can match,” Erives says.
