New Voice for the Reign
Barnett named 2012-13 Reign broadcaster
ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign, 2011-12 Pacific Division champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, have announced that former inside ticket representative Nathan Barnett will be the new voice of the Ontario Reign.
Barnett, 23, will take over the Reign microphone as the team’s radio broadcaster. The Pomona College graduate will be the youngest announcer in the ECHL entering the 2012-13 season.
Barnett began his broadcasting career in 2010 with the Claremont Colleges. He installed a program to train and prepare other students interested in broadcasting for the schools while working as the play-by-play broadcaster for Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic programs.
In addition to calling countless games for different sports, Barnett hosted a two-hour sports talk radio show on KSPC 88.7 FM Claremont twice a week.
In a short amount of time, the Dallas, Texas native gained valuable broadcasting experience covering football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, track/field, and softball. In the summer of 2011 he made a full transition to baseball while calling the games for the Palm Springs POWER of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League. He provided the play-by-play and color commentary for the games. Barnett also interned with the team in the media relations department.
This will be Barnett’s second season with the Reign as he joined the organization in 2011 as an inside sales representative. In addition to taking on the role of the primary, traveling broadcaster, Barnett received a promotion to Account Executive effective immediately.
