Reign Contribute More than $480,000
to Local Communities
Ontario passes $1.5 million donation mark in fourth season
ONTARIO, Calif.- The Ontario Reign, 2011-12 Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings, and their charitable branch, the Hope Reigns Foundation, announce that with the help of their generous fans and partners, they raised $480,627.20 and volunteered more than 1000 hours for the community during the 2011-12 season.
The Hope Reigns Foundation donated a total of $69,314 in tickets and merchandise to various groups and organizations in the area, across the country, and internationally. Add $176,016 to that total to include the amount raised through ticket fundraising by schools and other non-profit organizations.
Regular in-game fundraising brought in $42,304.25 for local groups and non-profit organizations through 50/50 ticket sales, Chuck-a-Puck sales, and silent auction tables.
During the season, the Reign held six regular season specialty jersey auctions for various non-profit organizations. The first auction, held in October, featured a Los Angeles Kings affiliate jersey design and brought in $16,750 for youth hockey at IceTown Sports Center.
Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by Stater Bros. Charities, was on November 16 with an American flag jersey that was auctioned after the game to benefit local veterans; the auction collected $23,107.25. That same night, the Hope Reign Foundation presented the family members of wounded Marine, Justin Crabbe, with a check made out to the Justin Crabbe Fund for $5,000 . This money was raised during the 1st Annual Hope Reigns Golf Classic. To celebrate the season of Thanksgiving, the team fed the homeless at Citrus Park in Upland, Calif.
The team kept busy giving back to the community in December. Early in the month, the entire team visited patients at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and delivered autographed gifts and played games with the kids. Players and staff members then rolled up their sleeves to donate blood for an American Red Cross blood drive at San Antonio Community Hospital. The team also spent an afternoon at a local tree farm loading Christmas trees for families and raised money for the Brains and Brawns organization.
On December 10, in the second annual Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Toys for Tots, C.J. Stretch’s first goal of the game began the downpour of more than 4,200 donated teddy bears and other stuffed animals. That same night, sled hockey received $15,500 from the holiday jersey auction that was sponsored by the Inland Empire 66ers Baseball team and the Ontario Reign Dance Team.
The giving back kept going strong into the New Year as the American Red Cross Inland Empire Chapter and local celebrity tattoo artist, Corey Miller, collaborated to create a one-of-a-kind jersey design that raised $21,300 for the local chapter on January 21.
In February, Danbury School welcomed the entire Reign roster to their school to spend the day with the students. A student from Danbury was the model as one of the players showed them how they dress for the game. They played an intense game of ball hockey too - the Danbury Dragons won for the second year in a row - and the team visited the different classes. Go Green/Teacher Appreciation Night made a return to Citizens Business Bank Arena on February 11 benefitting the University of La Verne Scholarship Foundation. Through the graduation robe influenced jersey design, the foundation raked in $17,200 at the post-game auction.
The first week of March kicked off the National Education Association’s Read Across America week to promote reading motivation and awareness. The entire team spent time at various schools across the Inland Empire reading to classrooms and assemblies. The Humane Society Night benefitting the Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley brought in a whopping $57,984.25 through the jersey auction, ticket fundraising, special t-shirt sales, and in-game fundraising on March 24.
The Post-Season Gala event that was held on April 1 to raise money for Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital was a huge success bringing in $24,601 through the warm-up/community jersey auction sponsored by Nestle Waters.
In recognition of all of his volunteer work with the team, Jason Fredricks earned the 2011-12 ECHL Community Service award. Fredricks made it a point to show his and the team’s support of the communities that show so much support for them.
Even during final days of the regular and post-season, Reign players made school visits to read and talk about life as a professional athlete and three players filmed public service announcements for the American Red Cross Inland Empire chapter.
