Nov 23, 2016

Ontario, CA – Forward Jonny Brodzinski scored a goal and registered an assist and the Ontario Reign (6-3-4-0) snapped the Stockton Heat’s (8-4-1-0) three-game winning streak with a 3-1 triumph on Wednesday night in front of a crowd of 8,127 at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Forward Mike Amadio (three goals, three assists) extends his point streak to five games with his first period goal.

Game Summary

“I think it’s kind of been a long time coming,” said Brodzinski about the team’s performance. “We’ve gotten better and better every single week and we put together a full 60-minute game.”

Ontario had plenty of opportunities against netminder David Rittich and the Heat, taking a 10-5 shot advantage in the opening period. Stockton scored first, converting six seconds into the power play on a goal from forward Brandon Bollig. Amadio tied things up at 15:27, burying a shot past Rittich for his third goal of the season. Forward Sean Backman picked up the assist.

“Mike needs to have the puck. That’s what makes him what he is. He’s figured that out and I’m really excited for the direction he’s headed,” said Head Coach Mike Stothers after the game.

The Reign continued to dictate the pace in the middle frame, and took a 2-1 lead when Brodzinski found the back of the net at 5:58. Forward Michael Mersch and defenseman Alex Lintuniemi were credited with the assists. Ontario outshot Stockton, 18-11 over two periods and killed four penalties in the second stanza alone.

In the final period, forward Andrew Crescenzi fired in an empty-net goal with two minutes remaining to seal the Reign victory. Rittich finished with 24 saves on 26 chances. Goaltender Jack Campbell earned the win with 17 saves on 18 shot attempts.

“You look at a game like tonight and that’s a hard fought game. Two really good teams and one goal is going to decide this thing. You better be good in your details, you better be strong on your assignments and make sure you’re not making the mistakes that’s going to cost your team the game,” commented Coach Stothers.
