Mersch and Campbell Propel Reign over Monsters

Cleveland – The Ontario Reign (1-6-0-0) secured their first victory of the season in their second matchup against the Cleveland Monsters (3-3-1-0) at Quicken Loans Arena. Reign Goalie Jack Campbell also picked up his first win of the season in this matinee contest.

Ontario grabbed their first lead of the season of the season off of a Sean Walker power play tally (5:30) with assists by Jonny Brodzinski and Philippe Maillet in opening play. Shortly after, Michael Mersch recorded another goal for Ontario on another power play (6:37). Philippe Maillet and Paul LaDue got the assist credit on the Mersch scoring play.

In the middle frame, the Reign gave up their only goal of the game to Cleveland’s Tyler Motte (7:27). Ontario played steady only taking nine total shots on goal in the period.

In the final stanza of the game, Ontario play strong defense and contained the Monsters from tying the game and locked their first win overall and first road win of the season. The Reign went 2/6 in power plays, and had a total of 26 shots on goal. Cleveland, respectively, went 1/4 in power plays, and attempted 35 total shots on goal.
