Ontario Reign Fall 5-1 to Rampage in Penalty-Filled ContestNov 9, 2016
Ontario, CA – Forward Mike Amadio scored his first goal of the season as the Ontario Reign (3-3-3-0) suffered a 5-1 loss to the San Antonio Rampage (5-7-0-0) on Wednesday night in front of a crowd of 6,817 at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Both teams finished with a combined total of 101 penalty minutes.
The infractions started 37 seconds into the game on a roughing call against Reign forward Brett Sutter. The Reign started off strong, playing a physical, aggressive game — one that the Rampage also matched. Ontario managed a few scoring opportunities, but could not find the back of the net. On the defensive end, the Reign held San Antonio to 0-for-4 on the power play, before forward Troy Bourke buried a goal for a 1-0 lead at 17:54. Forward Mike Sislo was credited the assist.
Hungry for a goal, the Reign tied it up midway through the second stanza when forward Justin Auger sent a backhanded pass to Amadio who fired the puck into a wide-open net on the power play. Forward TJ Hensick picked up the secondary assist. Just two minutes later, forward A.J. Greer followed that up with a goal on the power play, putting the Rampage up, 2-1.
In the third, forward Garry Nunn extended the San Antonio lead off a feed from forward Sam Henley. Following the goal, the Rampage capitalized on the power play; defenseman Matt Lashoff wristed a shot through traffic to beat netminder Jack Campbell. Nunn netted his second goal of the night as he deked Campbell to score on the backhand with 32.7 seconds left. Campbell finished with 22 stops on 27 chances, while netminder Spencer Martin earned the victory, making 20 saves on 21 attempts.
