
Reign and Gulls Collide in Winner-Take-All Game 5 Tonight
May 2, 2017Ontario, CA – The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), take on the San Diego Gulls tonight at 7:00 at Valley View Casino Center in Game 5 of the best-of-five Pacific Division Semifinals. The series is tied, 2-2.

Game 1 – Fri., Apr. 21 – Ontario at San Diego, 3-2 Win
Game 2 – Sat., Apr. 22 – San Diego at Ontario, 2-1 Loss

Game 1: Friday, April 21 at San Diego Gulls: 3-2 Win
The Reign claimed a 2-0 lead behind goals from forward Jonny Brodzinski and T.J. Hensick before the Gulls turned the momentum with a penalty shot attempt in the second period (denied by Reign goalie Jack Campbell) and goals from Sam Carrick and Nick Kerdiles (shorthanded). With time winding down in the contest, the Reign forward Adrian Kempe forced a turnover and found Brodzinski open for a tap-in game-winning marker with 11.7 seconds left in the contest. Game 2: Saturday, April 22 vs. San Diego Gulls: 2-1 Loss
Gulls forward Nick Sorensen netted two goals, including the game-winning marker, in the first five minutes of the contest and goaltender Jhonas Enroth resisted a late Reign push to preserve a 2-1 victory. Game 3: Friday, April 28 at San Diego Gulls: 3-1 Loss
Gulls forward Nick Kerdiles buried the game-winning goal with 1:33 left in the third period to send the Gulls over the Reign. Kalle Kossila opened the scoring for San Diego on the power play in the first period and Reign forward Mike Amadio responded with a man-advantage marker of his own. The Reign peppered Gulls netminder Jhonas Enroth with a series-high 39 shots on goal. Recap Highlights
Game 4: Monday, May 1 vs. San Diego Gulls: 4-1 Win
Forwards T.J. Hensick (one goal, two assists) and Justin Auger (two goals, one assist) each recorded three-point games to send the Reign over the San Diego Gulls, 4-1, in Game 4 of the Pacific Division Semifinals at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Recap Highlights
Down to the Wire:
Tonight’s contest marks the first winner-take-all game for both the Reign and Gulls in team history. The Stockton Heat and San Jose Barracuda also clash in a decisive Game 5 of the other Pacific Division Semifinals tonight in San Jose.
Hensick Pushes Through:
Following his three-point performance in Game 4 last night, Reign forward T.J. Hensick is tied for seventh in AHL postseason scoring with five points (two goals, three assists).
Goaltending Duel:
Reign netminder Jack Campbell (third, 1.77 goals-against average) and Gulls goaltender Jhonas Enroth (fourth, 2.02 goals-against average) are among the top four AHL postseason goaltenders in goals-against average.
San Diego’s Powerful Power Play:
The Gulls hold the second-best power play in the AHL’s postseason, operating at 25 percent (three goals on 12 chances) and have scored on the man advantage the last three games.
SoCal Series:
The Reign and Gulls went 6-4-1-1 in the 2016-17 regular season head-to-head series. The two teams met in the postseason last year in the best-of-seven Pacific Division Semifinals with the Reign prevailing four games to one.
