Reign and Mosters Combine for 11 Goals in Cleveland

Cleveland, OH – It was a scoring fest at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland as the Ontario Reign (0-6-0-0) lose their sixth straight game, 7-4, to the Cleveland Monsters (3-2-1-0). Ontario did rack up a pair of power play goals in the contest, their first of the season.

The Monsters came out of the gate racking up scores in the first period. Cleveland took a strong lead after the opening period of play, leading the way 3-0. Cleveland’s first three goals came at the sticks of Tyler Motte (1:23), Justin Scott (5:27), and Jordan Schroeder (14:55). Schroder’s tally came shorthanded against the Reign.

In the second period, both teams combined for three goals. The Reign had a pair of their own, the first coming from Sean Walker’s first professional tally (4:45) with assists from Jonny Brodzinski and T.J. Hensick. Ontario’s second strike of the game was scored by Kevin Gravel (10:49), assisted by Michael Mersch and Matt Luff. Gravel’s goal was the Reign’s first power play goal of the season, ending their streak that stretched five games. Cleveland racked up another score from Tyler Motte (12:42), his second of the game.

It was more scoring in the final period of play for both clubs. Cleveland outscored the Reign 3-2 with some help from Calvin Thurkauf (5:19; 15:55), and Tyler Motte’s empty net hat trick goal (19:51). Ontario’s Captain Brett Sutter netted a short-handed penalty kill shot (12:33) off of a solo Michael Mersch assist. The Reign’s final scoring play of the game was a Michael Mersch power play tap-in (18:40) from a T.J. Hensick and Jonny Brodzinski assist.

The Ontario Reign continue a two-game series against the Cleveland Monsters tomorrow, Saturday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Quicken Loans Arena return home on Wednesday, November 1 against the San Jose Barracuda at 7:00 p.m. at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
