By Mark Bland
Des Moines, IA – The Ontario Reign (0-2-0-0) remain winless, falling 3-0 to the Iowa Wild (1-2-0-0) at Well Fargo Arena Friday night. It was a not the best homecoming for Iowa native Cal Peterson, who started his first game of the season in the net for the Reign. The Wild achieved their first win of the season and their first home victory. The Reign also dropped their first game to the Wild in team history and now holding a 2-1-0-0 all-time record.
In what turned into a scoreless first period, the Reign were far more aggressive in their second contest of the season. They fired away at opposing goalie Niklas Svedberg, taking 13 shots on goal and both teams failed to convert after four power plays combined between the two clubs.
After a much slower second period, the Reign continued to out shoot the Wild, but Iowa took the upper hand off of a Pat Cannone goal (9:58) with assists from Landon Ferraro, and Gerald Mayhew.
The Wild carried the momentum in the third period with a tally Carson Soucy (5:58) with assists from Brennan Menell and Pat Cannone. Colton Beck scored the third and final goal of the game for the Wild in any empty net at 19:00 with a solo assist from Soucy. The Reign finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play while the Wild went 0-for-5.
