Reign Wrap Up Head-to-Head Series with Heat Tonight

Ontario, CA – The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), visit the Stockton Heat tonight at 7:00 PT at Stockton Arena in Stockton, California. Tonight is the eighth and final regular-season meeting between the two teams.

Series at a Glance

The Reign are 4-2-1-0 against the Heat this season and 11-6-2-0 all time. This season, the Reign are 1-1-1 at Stockton Arena. Forward Sean Backman leads all Reign skaters with six points (two goals, four assists) and Stockton rookie forward Mark Jankowski leads all skaters in the series with seven points (four goals, three assists).

Playoff Push:

The Reign, who have already clinched a playoff berth, will face the San Diego Gulls in the opening round of the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs and look to battle for the second seed and home ice advantage. The Heat enter tonight’s contest with a magic number of four points to clinch a playoff berth. With a victory and a Condors regulation loss tonight, the Heat will grab the fourth and final playoff spot.

The Stockton Heat are currently on an eight-game point streak (6-0-1-1) and moved from outside the playoff picture into the fourth and final playoff spot in the Pacific Division.

Bad Boys of Stockton:

The Heat lead the AHL with an average of 18.66 penalty minutes per game.

I Hardly Recognize the Kids Anymore:

Over the past few days, the Reign have added many new players. Forward Matt Luff was assigned from Hamilton (OHL) on Friday, forwards Adrian Kempe, Jonny Brodzinski and defenseman Paul LaDue were reassigned to the Reign on Monday, goaltender Jonah Imoo was added on a PTO on Monday, defenseman Chaz Reddekopp was added on an ATO on Tuesday and the Reign recalled forward Justin Gutierrez and goalie Jack Flinn were recalled from Manchester (ECHL) on Tuesday.

Jankowski Leads the Way:

Heat forward Mark Jankowski is second in the AHL rookie scoring race with 54 points (27 goals, 27 assists).

Howdy Hensick:

Reign forward T.J. Hensick has three goals and seven assists over his last 12 games.

My Cousin Vinnie:

Reign team captain Vincent LoVerde has two goals over his last two games and is 19 among AHL defenseman with 34 points (nine goals, 25 assists). He skated in his 300 AHL contest, all with the King’s affiliate, last Saturday vs. San Diego.

Upcoming Milestones:

Forward Brett Sutter is four points from 300 in his career (119 goals, 177 assists).

Defenseman Zac Leslie is two games away from 100 pro contests.

Defenseman Cameron Schilling is three points away from 100 in his career (26 goals, 71 assists).
