The Week That Was…
The Ontario Reign traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina for a two-game weekend series against the Charlotte Checkers for a week record of 2-0-0-0 and improved their overall record to 13-4-2-0 to remain on top of the Pacific Division and Western Conference.
The two sides opened the four-game season series Saturday evening with the Reign taking a 3-1 victory at Bojangles’ Coliseum to snap a two-game skid. Forwards Paul Bissonnette, Scott Sabourin and Michael Mersch registered goals and defenseman Kevin Gravel added two assists in the victory.
The Reign carried the momentum into Sunday afternoon’s tilt, sweeping the weekend series behind a 5-1 triumph. Defenseman Vincent LoVerde and forward Sean Backman each scored a goal and an assist, forward Jonny Brodzinski added his first professional goal and goaltender Peter Budaj grabbed his 12th win of the season making 33 saves.
